About

FamilyBubble has been created to provide a base where all those interested in English Family Law (particularly lawyers, academics and students) can meet to exchange ideas and catch up with the latest news and views. Many lawyers think they are at, or sufficiently close to, the cutting edge of technology because their firms are continually updating their IT systems and software. It seems likely, however, that most are unaware of the new technologies that are available and widely used in other industries and are not considering how, for example, Web 2.0 software and the like could be used. FamilyBubble will hopefully become a showcase where different tools can be demonstrated, tested and discussed.

FamilyBubble’s approach is to apply the Web 2.0 philosophy promoting user-created content and mass collaboration to family lawyers’ commitment to their clients’ welfare. By gathering together the existing wealth of information already available on the web and encouraging lawyers to add to it we hope to provide a resource that will keep lawyers informed and efficient. It will also help minimise time spent on research and training. By improving efficiency and reducing costs, lawyers will be presented with the pleasant choice of whether to enjoy improved profitability or to pass costs savings onto their clients in the form of lower fees. How realistic this goal is will only become apparent over time, and will be further explored in future blog posts.

Ultimately, FamilyBubble exists to service the needs and interests of its community of users. For this reason, we will seek to involve the community wherever possible, both in creating the site (for example on the discussion board and in creating the library of resources) and in plotting its future. If you are new to this site we urge you to get involved. The more people who contribute, in whatever way, the more we can all gain from whatever the site achieves.
